Puff, but Not the Magic Dragon

Puff, but Not the Magic Dragon

Yes, this lovely 11-inch-diameter specimen was in the forest just up the street from my door — just waiting for me to salvage.
You see, last fall I saw a couple that had been smashed on the rocks and left to rot.  I didn’t want this one to suffer the same fate.
After we carefully harvested it and brushed it clean, I fried two thick slices in butter and served them for dinner, sprinkled with salt. Yummy.
I dried the rest slowly in a warm oven and then stored the pieces in three large bottles.

  1. oh! I’m so envious. I haven’t tasted puffball since Daddy used to bring it home from the bush. It sounds yummy!
