A Winded Nuthatch Catches His Breath

After flying Kirplunk! into one of my dining-room windows, this fluffy little handful of feathers needed a cuddle in a warm jacket. He was stunned.
After the “heart to heart” he calmly posed on my deck rail while looking around for something familiar. This gave me the time to get a decent close-up.
No more than 10 minutes later, he was all rested up and flew the coop, heading directly toward Mommy who was calling from the maple tree next door.
I often wonder how these tiny animals can tolerate these head-on crashes. Do they all have flyers airbags in their little skulls?
